Don’t Miss Big Sky Brewing in Missoula
Though there are plenty of great breweries across the country, we think we’re pretty spoiled with those right here in Missoula. In particular, we’re big fans of the craft brews made by Big Sky Brewing in Missoula. Next to longtime Missoula staple Bayern Brewing, Big Sky Brewery is one of the oldest beer establishments in the city.
They brewed their first beer, Whistle Pig Red Ale, in 1995. At first, their ale-style beer was only available on draft at their original Hickory Street location. But by the early 2000s, Big Sky Brewing in Missoula began to bottle and sell their beer. Today, Big Sky Brewing brews and bottles its beer at its flagship location by the Missoula Airport.
Visiting Big Sky Brewing’s Taproom is a “must” for any beer lover in Missoula. You’ll find a wide variety of their signature beers on tap, of course, including some fun seasonal varieties. During the summer, Big Sky Brewing in Missoula becomes a popular destination – but it’s not just because their beer is excellent. They also host a fantastic summer concert series.
The Big Sky Brewing Amphitheater is one of the coolest summer concert venues of the year. Amphitheater seating is casual, with a large grassy field perfect for blankets and chairs. There are selections from Big Sky Brewing’s lineup available for the concerts, as well as various food truck vendors.
More Fantastic Missoula Breweries to Try
With a great lineup of locally-made beer and a fantastic concert venue, it’s easy to see why Big Sky Brewing in Missoula has earned such a dedicated following. However, it’s just one of the many great Missoula breweries worth trying while you’re here. That’s particularly true this summer. As the weather heats up and adventure season kicks off, these breweries offer a fantastic way to unwind at the end of the day.
From exploring Missoula’s vast wilderness with one outdoor adventure after another to enjoying the vibrant arts in downtown Missoula, this rugged Montana town truly does have something to offer everyone. Below, we’ve included a list of some of our favorite Missoula breweries to try next time you’re in town.
- Bayern Brewing is one of the oldest Missoula breweries and also happens to be the only German microbrewery in the Rockies that offers excellent Bavarian-style lagers, pilseners, and hefeweizen. It’s great to visit year-round, but we really love their beer garden on a warm summer day.
- Like Big Sky Brewing, Kettlehouse Brewing first opened in 1995. Next to its brewery, it offers a river-side Amphitheater.
- Draught Works Brewery has a great assortment of ales, lagers, and more experimental styles like a Hazy Latte IPA and hard seltzers. Like most Missoula breweries, they also have a great outdoor patio and offer live entertainment throughout the summer.
- Great Burn Brewery, on the south side of Missoula, is perfect for hop-loving beer drinkers who love West Coast-style IPAs.
- For great beer paired with a fantastic meal, head to the local favorite Tamarack Brewing Company.
- Highlander Beer is a favorite among locals. Though this establishment has a long history that dates back more than 100 years, they recently reopened in 2015 and haven’t looked back since.
- Conflux Brewing Company is the spot to go if you’re looking for something unique to drink. As a bonus, they have a great food menu that pairs well with whatever you’re drinking that day.
