Lolo Peak Trail

November can definitely mean the start of winter here at our Missoula bed and breakfast. For the moment, however, we are still recommending hiking trails (and not ski areas) to our guests.

The Lolo Peak Trail (#1311) is a favorite. It leads to Carlton Ridge, where hikers will find a stand of subalpine larch, Labrador tea, and mounds of mountain heather. At that point, if your legs are still itching to move, descend to Carlton Lake and then up to the summit of Lolo Peak (over 9,000 feet). The views from Lolo Peak are spectacular; they encompass our fair city of Missoula, the Bitterroot Valley, and the Bitterroot and Sapphire Mountain ranges.

Hike to Lolo Peak.

This is a challenging trail, with over 3,000 feet in elevation gains. Hikers will want plenty of drinking water and snacks. The trail to Carlton Lake is maintained, but the journey to Lolo Peak is a scramble, and one that should only be attempted by experienced hikers.

After this hike, you’ll be ready to collapse with fatigue at our bed and breakfast Missoula. Let us pamper you. Soak in a jetted tub for as long as you like, then curl up by the fire with a book or a movie. In the morning, restore your strength with a sumptuous meal prepared by Brady.

For directions to the trailhead and additional information, please see the USDA Forest Service.
