Stomp in Missoula Montana

Stomp-in-Missoula-Montana

Stomp  in Missoula Montana to witness STOMP perform live at the Adam Center on University of Montana campus.  On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at 7:30 pm the inventive and invigorating stage show that’s dance, music and theatrical performance blended together in one electrifying rhythm.

Percussion instruments are some of the oldest music-makers in the world, perhaps only second to the human voice itself. This diverse family of instruments is integral to music in every known culture, and includes a vast array of musical sounds.  A “percussion instrument” is any instrument whose sound is generated via striking, rubbing, shaking or otherwise impacting a surface to create audible vibrations.  Stomp has a gift for taking ordinary objects and turn them into incredible beats.

STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, utterly unique, and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms.

The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans. As USA Today says, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.” STOMP. See what all the noise is about.

Blue Mountain Bed and Breakfast hosts guests from many different areas of the world.  Guests visit Missoula to experience outstanding performances, witness competitive sports, walk historic trails, ski beautiful snow, taste delicious cuisine, shop incredible retail, and so much more! Montana-Griz-Basketball

The University of Montana Griz Basketball teams, both mens and womens, attracts a lot of fans.  Did you know that both the mens and womens head basketball coaches were also Grizzlies basketball players?  In Big Sky Country, they play to win the Big Sky Conference.

Travis DeCuire was formally introduced as the University of Montana’s 27th men’s head basketball coach in June of 2014, at a press conference in University of Montana’s Adams Center.  DeCuire and the 2014-15 Griz went on to surpass all expectations, leading UM to a 20-win season and a share of the Big Sky Conference regular season title.

As a point guard for Montana from 1992-94 DeCuire was named All-Big Sky Conference as a junior and senior. He set a school record in just three seasons with 435 career assists. He also established UM’s single-season mark with 199 assists as a senior in 1993-94, when he was ranked 12th in the nation, averaging 7.1 assists a game.

He was the recipient of the Grizzlies’ Carl Dragstedt Award (MVP) as a junior (he shared it with forward Matt Kempfert that season) and senior, and received the John Eaheart Award (Outstanding Defensive Player) following his senior year.

Little-Big-Town-Pain-Killer-Tour-2015

Event Date: Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 7:30 pm

Facility: Adams Center on University of Montana Campus in Missoula

Little Big Town is returning to Missoula! Special guests will be The Shires.

Little Big Town is an American country music vocal group. Founded in 1998, the group has comprised the same four members since its foundation: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman (née Kimberly Roads), Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet. Their musical style relies heavily on four-part vocal harmonies, with all four members alternating as lead singers; Westbrook and Sweet also play rhythm guitar.

Pain Killer covers all new territory for Little Big Town. The band and its writing and production partners favored multi-layered effects. They drew from amix of music influences including vintage 50’s country, 70’s country, funk, groove, a cappella, bluegrass and straight up rock n’ roll.  This evolution of Little Big Town’s sound is the outcome of their free reign to write and craft as they chose, making Pain Killer as uninhibited as their creative process.

Hosts Elaine and Brady Anderson-Wood of Blue Mountain Bed and Breakfast welcome you to be their guests.  Experience their gorgeous, peaceful mountain setting that is in Missoula, Montana –the same town where these live concerts are performed on University of Montana campus.  Each morning guests delight in fresh, delicious gourmet breakfasts.

The Missoula Insectarium

missoula-insectarium

The Missoula Insectarium first opened its doors to the public on June 25, 2015.  It is located in downtown Missoula at 218 E. Front Street on the second floor.  It costs $4 for guests (ages 4 and older) to take a tour.  They are open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 am to 5 pm and on Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm.  You can contact them at 406-317-1211.

Reporter Lindsay Brawner,  from ABC Fox Montana Local News, interviewed The Missoula Insectarium Founder and Director Jen Marangelo (see the video below).  The Director said they would like for people to gain a better appreciation for the vital role that insects play.  Their goal is to educate the public about the fascinating lives of these important creatures through exhibits and educational programs in a family friendly environment.

Wonder how they get their insects?  Many insects come from ordering them online or by trading with other insectariums.  Other insectariums in the United States include:

  • The Audobon Insectarium in New Orleans, Louisiana
  • The Bayer Crop Science Insectarium found inside the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina
  • The Insectarium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • The Insect Zoo found at the SanFrancisco Zoo in California
  • The Monsanto Insectarium at the St. Louis Zoo in Missouri

The Missoula Insectarium is here for the community, both adults and kids, as well as here as a tourist destination.  Insectarian Educational Director Carolyn Wiley runs the classroom aspect.  She often witnesses the transformation of students who are initially reluctant to touch the insects who leave as fans.  The Missoula Insectarium will  provide programs and field trips for school groups, homeschoolers, and other organized groups.

Butterfly houses and insect zoos have proven to be enormously popular with the public wherever they appear and are used to generate increased visitation and revenue for many zoos, museums and other non-profit organizations. Director Jen Marangelo’s next dream is to create a greenhouse filled with butterflies that is large enough for people to walk through and see them.  They will receive captive-bred butterflies (actually the chrysalides) from breeders around the world (primarily Central and South America).

In June of 2010 the Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium completed a custom-designed business feasibility study to determine if their vision for an insect education facility in Missoula, MT could be viable. Guided by the positive results of the feasibility analysis, their vision for this facility includes:

  • A 2,000 square foot tropical butterfly house
  • A viewing area to watch the final stage of metamorphosis and see adult butterflies emerge from their chrysalides
  • An insect zoo and hands-on exhibits that teach children and adults about invertebrate biology, ecology and conservation
  • A classroom for school groups, community programs and special events
  • An outdoor pollinator garden and insect-themed playground
  • A gift shop and dining area

As a unique resource for our local community, schools, and visitors to Montana, the Missoula Butterfly House & Insectarium will provide an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the fascinating lives of insects and butterflies.  By taking advantage of the ever-increasing popularity of these exhibits and by providing a state-of-the-art facility, The Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium will be an educational and recreational resource for the local community as well as visitors to the Missoula area.

A fictionalized version of the real life All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League, A League of Their Own centers on two sisters who join the league while most of the men of baseball-playing age are fighting in World War II. Their coach, one-time home-run champion Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks), is now a broken-down alcoholic who sobers up as the team begins to show promise. The question is whether these competitive sisters can come together to take their team to the World Series.

And We Were Young
(2015) (R)
Saturday, September 5
1 hour 55 minutes

Sunset – 8:08 pm

The interwoven stories of And We Were Young together give the whole arc of U.S. intervention in Europe, from enlistment and passage to France aboard pestilent troop-ships, through baptism by fire and lead and, for those who lived to tell about it, to the Armistice and beyond. Selected carefully from first-person accounts passed down in letters, journals, memoir and interviews, the dusty words of the men and women who were there come alive in silhouetted scenes of surprising beauty as well as shocking brutality. Mindful of this fine line, Smetanka’s feature debut demonstrates what fighting men have always noticed: that war, in all its abject ugliness, can have its senseless beauty, too.
