Missoula Art Museums

Missoula is lucky to have two excellent museums. The Montana Museum of Art & Culture is located on the University of Montana campus. It houses the most prominent collection in the Rocky Mountain Northwest. This treasure of nearly 11,000 objects covers Rembrandt to Warhol. In addition to valuable historic pieces, they are also committed to collecting art with the spirit of the American West. While The Missoula Art Museum, located in the heart of the city’s historic downtown, is a space for contemporary artists. Their eight exhibition spaces showcase the work of many modern Montana artists, especially Native Americans. Expect the unexpected with shows that include video installations, abstract pieces and whole room sculptures called art environments. Both museums offer opportunities to meet the artists at exhibit openings, gallery tours and talks.

First Friday Art Walks and Galleries

Every first Friday of the month Duluth shops, restaurants and galleries host an art walk. From 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm businesses serve wine, food and display the talents of our local artists. The festival-like event is a great place to shop for a souvenir. The Artists’ Shop and 4 Ravens Gallery are where to find unique, high quality crafts. Choose the perfect gift or treat yourself to handmade jewelry, pottery, woodworking, or wearable art. For more traditional paintings, drawings and sculptures, browse Dana Gallery and Monte Dolack Gallery . They offer impressive representational art of the Montana countryside and wildlife. The Radius Gallery also carries masterful landscapes in addition to whimsical surreal paintings and colorful abstracts.
